May 13, 2025 Ana Lopes’s Journey of Empowerment & Community Service
Ana Lopes’s story is a powerful testament to the transformative impact of the Emerging Leaders Development Program and her unwavering commitment to her community and personal growth.
Her leadership journey began with a profound realization: she could no longer ignore her calling to lead. Starting her career in social work, Ana initially stepped back from leadership roles to focus on direct service, yet opportunities to return to leadership kept knocking. When she was entrusted with building an outpatient clinic dedicated to serving BIPOC youth in her neighborhood—an area close to her heart—she felt a calling larger than herself. This moment ignited a deep sense of purpose and a desire to make a meaningful difference in her community.
Recognizing the importance of strengthening her leadership skills, Ana applied to RIBBA’s Emerging Leaders Development Program. The timing was perfect. The program became a catalyst for her growth, providing her with the tools, support, and reflection she needed to reconnect with her strengths and reignite her motivation to lead with purpose.
Throughout the program, Ana faced and overcame several personal challenges. She found the motivation and confidence to finally take her licensure exam—a step she had postponed for years—and grew more comfortable speaking in group settings. However, the most significant challenge was networking, an area where she traditionally struggled. The program’s supportive environment encouraged her to show up authentically, build genuine connections, and push beyond her comfort zone. These experiences helped her discover her resilience and reinforced her belief in her leadership potential.
As a BIPOC woman in a leadership role, Ana’s journey was both empowering and inspiring. She witnessed her growth in self-confidence, learned to embrace her authentic leadership style, and celebrated the achievement of her goals. The sense of accomplishment she felt at the end of the program reaffirmed her belief in the power of self-investment and perseverance.
What continues to drive Ana is her deep sense of responsibility to serve her community. Her experiences have transformed her perspective—she now sees leadership as a form of service rooted in connection, empathy, and cultural competence. She envisions a future where she expands access to mental health care for underserved populations, creates spaces for healing and representation, and mentors others to recognize their strengths.
Ana’s story exemplifies how stepping outside of one’s comfort zone can lead to profound growth. Her journey reminds us that leadership isn’t about hierarchy but about serving others with heart and authenticity. Through her commitment, resilience, and compassion, Ana Lopes embodies the true spirit of a leader—one who uplifts her community, inspires others to grow, and continuously strives to be her best self.
