Abraham Cortez’s LEAP to Leadership

Abraham Cortez’s LEAP to Leadership

Three years ago, Abraham Cortez took a leap of faith when he enrolled in a software development program called Apprentice Now. The experience challenged him, testing his IT knowledge and resilience in ways he never anticipated. Upon completing the program, he was offered a position as a Computer Operator at IGT, where he spent two and a half years building a solid foundation in the tech industry. Yet, a persistent desire for growth urged him to seek new opportunities and avoid stagnation.

Inspired by a conversation with his partner, Abraham discovered RIBBA’s  Leadership Equity Accelerated Pathway (LEAP) Mentorship & Training Program. After an initial setback with his application to another program, he focused on LEAP, viewing it as a crucial opportunity for advancement. Upon joining, he found himself surrounded by a vibrant community of like-minded individuals eager to learn and collaborate. The program equipped him with essential skills in communication, financial literacy, and networking, instilling a sense of pride in his professional growth.

Abraham thrived in the supportive atmosphere, participating in workshops that allowed him to share and learn from his peers. This experience ignited a passion to push beyond his comfort zone, realizing that the power of community was essential to not only his development but that of others as well. As he reflected on his journey, he recognized a profound responsibility to uplift others in his community.

“I want to be a leader for the RI community that many can look up to,” Abraham expressed. As he embarks on the next chapter of his career, Abraham is determined to leave a legacy of empowerment and excellence, impacting the Rhode Island community and beyond.
