Caroline’s Journey

Caroline LamarineCaroline Lamarine’s journey to becoming a passionate advocate for equity and public policy is a powerful testament to resilience and transformation. As a lower-income student entering a private university, Caroline felt an initial sense of gratitude for the opportunity afforded to her through federal funding. However, the experience soon revealed the stark contrasts between her background and those of her peers, as she navigated the academic and social landscapes filled with challenges she hadn’t anticipated. This formative experience deepened her empathy for others and ignited her passion for creating a more equitable society, laying the groundwork for her future endeavors in public policy.

As graduation drew near, Caroline grappled with uncertainty about her next steps. She recognized that she needed guidance but felt overwhelmed at the prospect of navigating her future alone. It was during this pivotal moment that she stumbled upon a flyer for the Leadership Equity Accelerated Pathway (LEAP) Mentorship & Training Program. Intrigued by its promise of guidance and professional growth, she decided to take a leap of faith, hoping to explore opportunities in the public service sector while honing her interpersonal and career skills.

The LEAP Program became a transformative experience for Caroline, helping her confront the most daunting challenges of preparing for the professional world. Networking, which once felt intimidating and overwhelming, was redefined as an empowering and genuine endeavor. Through her involvement in LEAP, Caroline forged meaningful connections with mentors and peers who recognized her potential, allowing her to step into her authentic self within professional spaces. This new confidence became a crucial asset as she navigated her post-college ambitions.

One standout moment in the LEAP Program was a financial guidance workshop designed to equip participants with tools for fiscal independence. Equipped with newfound knowledge and a clearer vision for her future, Caroline felt empowered to pursue a master’s degree at Brown University—an aspiration that once seemed beyond reach. This workshop not only equipped her with practical strategies for financial planning but also instilled a deeper belief in her capabilities and dreams.

As Caroline prepares to graduate, she looks forward to deeply rooting herself in Providence, the city that has shaped her journey over the past four years. Her commitment to public policy, particularly in the realm of immigration reform, stems from a profound understanding of how policy decisions impact people’s lives. Caroline strives to challenge exclusionary systems and advocate for meaningful reforms that uplift marginalized voices. Embracing her leadership style that combines organization and positivity, she aims to foster trust and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone feels welcome at the table. As she embarks on this next chapter, Caroline Lamarine is not just a graduate—she is a dedicated leader ready to ignite change and make an indelible mark on her community.
